Penguins’ Letang, Ludvig, Nieto undergo surgeries, have long-term recovery timeliens

Pittsburgh Penguins President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Kyle Dubas announced that Penguins skaters Kris Letang, John Ludvig and Matt Nieto have undergone recent surgeries.

Letang underwent surgery to repair a fractured finger on his left hand. The timeline for recovery is expected to be eight weeks. Letang notched 10 goals and 41 assists for 51 points in 82 games during the 2023-24 regular season. The 37-year-old ranked second among Pens’ defensemen in points trailing Erik Karlsson.

Ludvig underwent surgery to repair the extensor tendon in his left wrist. The timeline for his recovery is expected to be four-to-six months. Ludvig tallied three goals and five points in 33 games with the Penguins.

Nieto underwent successful reconstructive MCL surgery on his left knee. The 31-year-old’s recovery timeline is expected to be six-to-seven months. Nieto tallied one goal and four points in 22 games with the Penguins.

The Penguins finished the 2023-24 campaign fifth in the Metropolitan Division with a 38-32-12 record and 88 points.
