He landed in the best situation for himself, but Ga’Quincy “Kool-Aid” McKinstry knows he’s a first-round talent.
The New Orleans Saints selected him at No. 41 overall in the second round, and the former Alabama cornerback is set to prove those who passed on him wrong. He arrived at Saints’ rookie minicamp full of confidence, swagger, and determination.
Mike Evans of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is arguably the lone marquee wide receiver in the NFC South, so McKinstry should create a lot of turnovers in the division. He came to the University of Alabama as a five-star athlete in the 2021 recruiting class; however, McKinstry developed into a very good cornerback.
The Birmingham (Ala.) native finished his career with 93 tackles, 23 pass breakups, and two interceptions. He was a two-time first-team All-SEC (2022, 2023) selection and a first-team All-American honoree for his efforts last season.
Opposing quarterbacks did not challenge McKinstry in 2023 as he broke up seven passes.
The 6-foot, 199-pounder was a two-time SEC Champion, but he is ready to get to work in the National Football League.
